Why are shortcakes called shortcakes not shortbiscuit or shortcookies and why short?

Christmas and New Year came and went so fast and now Chinese New Year is coming. Time really flies. Hope everyone made full use of the time given, be it to achieve goals, bless someone or just sit back and relax.
